The transition isn-t always smooth, but here are some successful TV shows modeled on the movie.

“MASH’: Robert Altman-s 1970 Korean War satire became a classic and so did the TV series. Starring Alan Alda, the show garnered many Emmys and citations for excellence, becoming one of the most popular shows of all time. Running for 11 seasons, the 1983 series finale held the title as the most watched TV episode in U.S. history for 28 years. (Super Bowl XLV surpassed it in 2011.)

The Odd Couple’: Based on Neil Simon-s play and 1968 film, the series offered perfect casting. With Jack Klugman (Oscar) and Tony Randall (Felix) assuming the roles originated by Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, the show ran from 1970-75. Moderately successful on ABC, the show didn-t find its audience until entering syndication. It-s now considered a classic sitcom.

“Buffy The Vampire Slayer’: The 1992 film was a modest hit, but it-s not considered an official part of the TV show-s history. Writer Josh Whedon reworked the concept with Sarah Michelle Gellar in the lead, and the program became known for its action, smart writing, and intricate mythology. Running from 1997-2003, “Buffy” is the epitome of a cult favorite.Can-t get enough? There-s more: Buffy’s toughest ‘Season Nine’ challenge won’t be supernatural
