He recently co-wrote and executive produced the original SHOWTIME film, PARADISE, starring Barbara Hershey, David Strathairn and Elaine Stitch.
Matheson wrote the screenplay for the critically lauded SOLE SURVIVOR, a FOX Network, four-hour mini-series based on Dean Koontz's best selling novel. He wrote DELUSION an original suspense film screenplay for VH1, DEMONS an original dark suspense/horror film screenplay for SHOWTIME and, THE NATURE OF EVIL, an original horror screenplay for Ivan Reitman. He also wrote the screenplay for Roger Zelazny's Nebula Award-Winning Science Fiction/Fantasy series THE CHRONICLES OF AMBER, as a four-hour miniseries for the SCI-FI Channel.
Matheson recently co-created CHEMISTRY, an edgy, erotic half-hour comedy series now being developed by Bill Haber’s OSTAR Productions and wrote three scripts for SHOWTIME’S MASTERS OF HORROR (the first two directed by Tobe Hooper).
For TNT’s NIGHTMARES AND DREAMSCAPES, he wrote the critically hailed adaptation of Stephen King’s, short story “Battleground” a one-hour episode, starring William Hurt. Matheson’s choice to write the entire script with no dialogue impressed critics and THE NEW YORK TIMES called the episode “...a minor masterpiece.”
Matheson has just written a one-hour pilot for SPIKE TV he co-created and an internet pilot project he wrote and directed.
Most currently, he is writing two feature films and an eight-hour miniseries for director Bryan Singer and the SCIFI Channel.

Matheson is considered an expert on the occult and has worked for the UCLA Parapsychology Labs, investigating haunted houses, and paranormal phenomenon. He was involved in the publicized case upon which the film The Entity was based.
He has written for stand-up comedians, taught college creative writing and screenwriting classes at UCLA. Matheson has also been a professional drummer for over thirty years, studied privately with the legendary CREAM drummer Ginger Baker, and worked as a studio and touring musician.
He has played, along with Stephen King, Amy Tan and Dave Barry, in the writers' band "The Rock Bottom Remainders" and his own alternative band "The Existers" has been signed by Straight Edge records. Their debut album is titled "Coffins and Carousels" and they have released “Tiger Walking Weather” a second album he co-produced and co-wrote.
He also plays with a second band, SMASH-CUT a blues/rock/jazz band which has recently recorded its live, debut album, “Live at THE MINT” and includes the son of legendary director Preston Sturges on lead guitar. In May 2007, SMASH-CUT recorded their first studio album which includes thirty original songs. The band plans to release a triple album later in the year. |
